Shape modeling technique KOALA validated by ESA Rosetta at (21) Lutetia
We present here a comparison of our results from ground-based observations of asteroid (21) Lutetia with imaging data acquired during the flyby of the asteroid by the ESA Rosetta mission. This flyby provided a unique opportunity to evaluate and calibrate our method of determination of size, 3-D shape, and spin of an asteroid from ground-based observations. Knowledge of certain observable physic...
متن کاملEvaluating a new intrauterine pressure catheter.
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the performance and verify the safety of the Koala Intrauterine Pressure Catheter (IUPC) in clinical use. STUDY DESIGN Twenty IUP Koala Catheters were placed in laboring women. IUPC monitoring provided diagnostic information in assessing the pressures generated by the myometrium during the labor and delivery process. Information was recorded pertaining to the catheters' ...
متن کاملChlamydia Serine Protease Inhibitor, targeting HtrA, as a New Treatment for Koala Chlamydia infection
The koala, an iconic marsupial native to Australia, is a threatened species in many parts of the country. One major factor in the decline is disease caused by infection with Chlamydia. Current therapeutic strategies to treat chlamydiosis in the koala are limited. This study examines the effectiveness of an inhibitor, JO146, which targets the HtrA serine protease for treatment of C. pecorum and ...
متن کاملOne Hundred Twenty Years of Koala Retrovirus Evolution Determined from Museum Skins
Although endogenous retroviruses are common across vertebrate genomes, the koala retrovirus (KoRV) is the only retrovirus known to be currently invading the germ line of its host. KoRV is believed to have first infected koalas in northern Australia less than two centuries ago. We examined KoRV in 28 koala museum skins collected in the late 19th and 20th centuries and deep sequenced the complete...
متن کاملGene and genome-centric analyses of koala and wombat fecal microbiomes point to metabolic specialization for Eucalyptus digestion
The koala has evolved to become a specialist Eucalyptus herbivore since diverging from its closest relative, the wombat, a generalist herbivore. This niche adaptation involves, in part, changes in the gut microbiota. The goal of this study was to compare koala and wombat fecal microbiomes using metagenomics to identify potential differences attributable to dietary specialization. Several popula...
